The city buzz is filled with all kinds of sounds like zooming cars, bicycle bells, and commuting crowds hurrying along streets. There is so much stimulus all around us, yet we find ourselves living almost entirely digital lives. British contemporary artist Julian Opie cuts through the noise to create simplistic, snapshot portraits of strangers in action.
Both widely recognized and celebrated, his work aims to look at how we perceive and understand images. Opie does this by reducing them to their most essential elements as signs you would see on the road or point to stairs or a toilet. As a result, he captures movement and everyday life within a two-dimensional environment.
What are some of the joys of everyday life that you enjoy?
